“Between stimulus and response there is a space.  In that space is our power to choose our response.  In our response lies our growth and freedom.”

Viktor Frankel

Hi !!

I don’t normally touch base with you on a Saturday so apologies for invading your inbox 🙂

I know I’m going to have a late night tonight – I’ve been shortlisted for the Local Women “Woman of the Year” Award.

Needless to say I’m absolutely buzzing!!

Posh Frock, Hair, Make up and Dancing Shoes sorted.

Personally, it’s an awesome acknowledgement that I’m on the right path.

That following my heart and doing what I love… works. It’s humbling to be nominated and rewarding to know that my hard work has been recognised.

Have I ever told you about my long term vision ?

My long-term vision is to launch a Foundation dedicated to unleashing women’s potential and empower women entrepreneurs. I believe our world will be a much better one when women play an active role in shaping and transforming it. I feel that winning this award would give me the stepping stone to becoming more visible and achieving this.

I’m passionate and excited about about inspiring women to be the best they can be and today I’m high-fiving everybody who has joined me on my journey so far.

Today I wanted to share a little mindfulness trick with you …

I hope it’s not a stretch to connect your choices for self-care in terms of nourishing your body with food and exercise and what could also be seen as self-destruction in terms of the opposite –  poor choices being affected by lack of mindfulness.  Our “inner thought storm” in the form of stress, fatigue, or emotional turmoil causes us to forget the larger sense of what we need to do to care for ourselves.

How can you begin to interrupt the pattern of choosing cake and vino over nourishing food or skipping exercise to binge watch your favourite soaps on TV or surf FaceBook?

You have a “magic quarter second,” a pause, between when a thought happens, and the actual movement.

So you have a magic quarter second between when you have a thought to do something (want cake) and when you actually do it (eat cake).

It is in that quarter second, that you can call on the awareness to interrupt the patterning.

Interrupting a pattern with a pause.

I know it sounds super simple and quite obvious but it’s that the practice of successfully interrupting the pattern that strengthens your remembering.

Remembering to reconnect with your self-care.

Sometimes it will work and sometimes it won’t but it’s in the practice.

Even if you fail, you are beginning to change your neural networks (habits).

Your patterns.

There is tremendous power in the ability to pause for 5 seconds and change course.

In only 5 seconds, you can begin to strengthen the part of your brain that remembers compassion for and what will ultimately serve you.

It’s all in the practice of the 5 second pause.

And The Practice.  And The Practice. And The Practice.

Repetition is the Mother Skill.

What happens in your magic quarter second or 5 second pause today, tomorrow, and beyond, may well be thing that makes a difference in your weight loss goals.

Have a fab day !!
Dee
