Errigal Climb with a Twist – Taking Burpees to New Heights for Jamie’s Journie

Burpees are the exercise that everyone loves to hate, and Team Million Dollar Fitness have set themselves the challenge of climbing Errigal before performing random burpees at the summit.

The event, on Sunday 25th October will raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer in support of Jamie’s Journie. The idea for the climb came from Dee McCahill, of Million Dollar Fitness, and forms part of their month-long fundraising campaign.

“As we celebrate the first anniversary of being in our new home – the restored Tower Hall on Bond’s Hill – we thought it would be great to give something back to our community,” Dee said.

“We are teaming up with Jamie’s Journie after realising that every one of the children that had been nominated by our members would all benefit, instead of just one child.”

Jamie is 16 years old and has beaten cancer twice, surviving many complications and, as a result, has been left with life-long complications and health problems. His idea for Jamie’s Journie is simple – to create a support group for families affected by childhood cancer. This extends to local children and young people affected by cancer in any way, so this can be a sibling or child of a person battling cancer.

“We also take families out to the cinema, airsoft, Jungle King, shows in The Forum etc. and have a VIP experience once a month. We recently had 27 children walk in a catwalk show to highlight cancer awareness month and it was a massive success, we also have the pleasure of sending our families for photoshoots,” Jamie explained.

“Recently, one  of our little kids was rushed to The Royal due to shingles and we decided to make emergency hampers, including essentials for both the parents and child and have named them Rory’s Rescue Packs and overnight we delivered it up to him.”

Plans for special Christmas events are already underway and, as Jamie says, “100% of donations to Jamies Journie goes back to the families and this is very important to us as we are simply a family who understand the cancer Journie.”

Million Dollar Fitness have a long-standing connection with charity causes, including NI Childrens’ Hospice, Children in Need, Foyle Hospice, New Pin and Aware NI. The Annual Great Christmas Unstuffing is a fun 5K charity event for all the family held over the festive period.

As part of the October fundraising this year, members are taking part in a Pledge My Pounds Challenge – for every pound in weight lost, Dee is donating £1 and members have pledged forfeits also. There will also be a Fancy Dress Coffee Morning and Raffle at Million Dollar Fitness on 31st October.

All are welcome to join the Errigal event, climbers are asked to meet at the carpark at the foot of Errigal at 10.30am on Sunday 25th October. The climb will start at 11.00am.
